A couple weeks ago, we sponsored a virtual tradeshow with IT Pro Today (formerly Windows IT Pro) where 1,000 techs signed up to attend the show all about “Preparing for Windows 7 End of Life.”
Windows 7? Really? Since Windows 10 has been out for a couple years, I tend to find myself thinking that there can’t be that many companies still running Windows 7. I was hesitant to sign us up for this one, but we decided to give it a chance. Boy am I glad we did.
The conversations were great and the questions poured in. We talked about everything from how to plan your Windows migration to more granular topics like how to build your golden Windows 10 reference machine using virtual machines.
Perhaps more importantly (and often overlooked until IT is swarming with unhappy users), we were able to share our take on how to manage Windows 10 Updates. The reality is that relying on the Windows 10 Update schedule from Microsoft can lead to unexpected end user downtime and an increase in IT troubleshooting hours.
